The Olympics at Tokyo, Japan aren’t taking place in 2020. The Coronavirus pandemic is changing the world, and it’s impossible for such a huge athletic event to take place, when athletes can’t even train, let alone travel in the middle of this global crisis!
While the Tokyo 2020 Olympiad isn’t yet canceled, it’s very likely to be postponed for 2021, when the Covid-19 pandemic will hopefully be under control.
Dick Pound, the longest-serving member of the International Olympic Committee, stated that on the basis of the information the IOC has, postponement has been decided
“The parameters going forward have not been determined, but the Games are not going to start on July 24, that much I know,” said Mr. Dick Pound, a Canadian former swimming champion.
Naturally, if the Tokyo 2020 Olympics are going to take place next year, the registration of domain names Tokyo2021.com and Olympics2021.com make sense.
Alas, they are both squatted upon by individuals in China and behind WHOIS privacy respectively – not registered by the IOC.
The IOC has been very protective of its OLYMPIC trademarks, filing UDRPs to gain control of infringing domain names.
