Netflix is launching a new online store called “Netflix Hub” and it will be sitting on Walmart’s platform.
The Netflix-powered store will be selling licensed merchandise of shows made popular on Netflix, such as the Squid Game, so that consumers can get these products on time for the holidays. This will hopefully cut down on unauthorized products that capitalize on a show’s success.
As Walmart said in a statement, the Netflix Hub will be the “biggest online retail destination for Netflix consumer products in the US.”
With all that in mid, it’s interesting seeing that Netflix did not secure the domain name NetflixHub.com, which is offered for sale on DAN instead. Netflix is a world famous registered trademark and Netflix Inc. has challenged 19 domains via the UDRP process so far.
The act of registering a domain that incorporates the name of a well-known brand is called “cybersquatting” and this is one such case regardless of the domain’s asking price.
