DomainTools: Possible deprecation of WHOIS services in 2025

DomainTools, the quintessential tool that queries, stores, and analyzes WHOIS data, and more, shared news that is of importance to all domain investors.

The company is warning of a “Possible deprecation of WHOIS services for ICANN TLDs” after January 28, 2025.

In detail:

ICANN is in the process of transitioning registries and registrars from using WHOIS to provide domain registration data to a replacement protocol, RDAP. This could happen as soon as January 28, 2025.

In cases where registries and/or registrars turn off their Whois services, whois.domaintools.com can no longer provide updated WHOIS records.

DomainTools is adding RDAP to our enterprise products, Iris Investigate, Iris Detect and the Iris Enrich API. Domain registration data will continue to be provided in those applications.

More details on RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) can be found here.

Please contact DomainTools at enterprisesupport@domaintools.com with any questions.

Story kudos: Jamie.
