Heritage Auctions, that often handles premium domain auctions, was targeted by a malware attack.
The activity has caused extensive downtime to its auction platform system, that has not been fully restored yet. Active auctions have been extended or rescheduled.
Heritage Auctions issued a statement, that includes the following:
Heritage would like to thank everyone for their patience as we work to restore our website.
We apologize for any inconvenience. We have confirmed that we were a victim of a malware attack. Please be aware that client financial information (e.g. credit card, bank account info, etc.) is maintained by a third-party provider and thus not affected.
We expect to be back online soon. All currently affected auctions will be extended or rescheduled and we will notify everyone accordingly. More updates soon.
A malware attack is a cyberattack where malicious software performs unauthorized actions on the targeted computer network. Criminal organizations have been accused of deploying malware for a number of reasons: steal valuable data, perform an intentional downtime of the targeted system, and to obtain financial gain by means of extortion.
Currently, we are not aware of a domain auction via Heritage Auctions. For more information, follow them on Twitter.
