Changes to the .AI domain WHOIS

RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) is a tool used to access registration data for internet resources, such as domain names, IP addresses, and autonomous system numbers.

RDAP is designed to replace the older WHOIS protocol, which has been in use for a long time but has some limitations.

With all that in mind, it seems that in recent weeks, the .AI Registry has updated its WHOIS queries to RDAP. The new .AI domain query tool can be found at rdap.whois.ai.

While still not displaying either the registration date or the expiration date of .AI domains, the RDAP tool provides records of the most recent change to an .AI  domain.

In February, we shared proof of backwards changes to the WHOIS tool, for the domain Zombie.ai – a random choice, to be honest. The same query using the RDAP tool displays the following output:

One can notice that a new section, “Events”, contains the single most recent change, in this case a domain transfer that took place in 2019. As mentioned, the RDAP record does not display the domain’s registration or expiration dates, however.

With Identity Digital taking over the back-end of the .AI registry, such changes might receive further improvements in the near future.
