CVC Secures $1.5 Billion acquisition of Namecheap

CVC Capital Partners is moving forward with a deal to acquire a majority stake in Namecheap, valuing the domain registrar and hosting company at about $1.5 billion including debt.

Founder and CEO Richard Kirkendall will retain a sizable ownership position and continue to play a key role alongside the global buyout firm. Deal terms are finalized, although an official announcement date hasn’t surfaced yet.

Namecheap, founded roughly 25 years ago in Arizona, recently reported 2024 revenues of $398 million, an 18% year-over-year increase.

CVC, with assets under management of about €200 billion ($235 billion), already has a footprint in the space through Webpros, a software provider powering 80 million domains and 30 million hosting accounts worldwide.

Founder Richard Kirkendall will keep a significant stake and collaborate closely with the global private equity firm. The deal includes both Namecheap and spin-off venture, Spaceship.com.
