Sedo has brokered the sale of the aged, premium domain Desktop.com.
A former property of Idealab, a startup studio based in Pasadena, California, the domain was registered in 1999, although it existed before then and dropped.
The transaction appears to have taken place “under wraps” in November, and the buyer is Rolf Larsen, chairman and founder of DNS Global and the dot .Global Registry. Mr. Larsen is now listed as the chairman and founder of Desktop.com.
What will the domain Desktop.com be used for? Here’s what we could find:
“Desktop.com is due to be launched during 2020. The service will provide a unique desktop environment for web apps.”
As the transaction through Sedo appears to have taken place under the provisions of a non disclosure agreement, we could not find any references to how much did Desktop.com sell for. Whether it sold for five figures, or six figures, Desktop.com is a top tier domain name.
Sedo is currently offering Desktops.com with a $300,000 dollar minimum offer. While desktops refers to PCs collectively, desktop is a reference to the working area displayed on a computer’s screen.
