Elon Musk’s Tesla acquired the domain name Tesla.com for $11 million dollars in 2016. Since then, the company has established itself as the global leader in mass EV production.
Tesla gained its name from Nikola Tesla, the Serbian-American inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, and futurist. One could therefore argue that the use of the Tesla brand isn’t owned by Tesla Motors exclusively.
Elon Musk and the Tesla lawyers think otherwise: The company filed a lawsuit against the Indian company Tesla Power that creates lead acid batteries. The lawsuit claims trademark infringement, despite a response by the Indian company that it doesn’t make vehicles.
Operating from the domain names TeslaPowerUSA.com and .in, the Indian company aims to fight the EV giant at the Indian courts.
Meanwhile, TeslaPower.com is for sale at Afternic and Media Options owns Tesla.tv.
