.HK was the first ccTLD allocated in the 1990’s.
Last week we shared the country ccTLDs that were allocated in the 1980’s, the pre-commercial days of the Internet.
As the use of the Internet expanded beyond the academic cycles, more countries around the world jumped in, claiming their national two-letter domain.
In the 1990’s, the list of countries staking their “domain flags” into the ground almost completed the global map. Hong Kong was the first addition, with .HK going live on January 3rd, 1990.
More than 200 countries were added, claiming their ccTLD in the 90’s, so here’s the list.
Once again, the date of registration follows the format YY/MM/DD.
