Domain zone file processors under-reporting .Boston numbers

Dot .Boston

There seems to be a large gap between the reported numbers for dot .Boston, and the actual number of domain registrations.

As we reported yesterday, dot .Boston had a nice first day with more than 2,000 registered .Boston domains.

These numbers came directly from the .Boston Registry, MMX.

However, domain-tallying web sites, ntldstats and namestat, reported much lower numbers yesterday, with ntldstats reporting  1,000+ less than the real numbers today; namestat is reporting about 500 less. Currently, ntldstats is offline, but it could be a coincidence.

As of 3 hours ago, MMX reported that dot .Boston has reached 2,600 domains.

And that’s rather wicked good, for a brand new city gTLD.

My count was 1,620 yesterday and 2,148 today. It’s possibly due to the time the version of the zone file captured by ICANN was generated.

Most Bostonians are too busy right now enjoying our championship sports teams to register domain names. At some point if we ever stop winning the rates might go up.

Kevin – the numbers were out of sync, but are now accurately reported, I’m told.
