THE Domain Conference opened up its friendly gates to domainers from around the world, earlier today.
Throngs of domain investors rushed in early on Saturday, to secure a spot attending a much-advertised opening speech by Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg.
Indeed, it was worth the pushing and shoving, and very rewarding to everyone present.
Mark Zuckerberg’s lengthy speech at THE Domain Conference can be summarized in the following phrase:
“As many of you tap, roll and flick through your Facebook today, remember that with every flick of your thumb a child is dying from thirst in sub-Saharan Africa or the Far East.
Remember, that for every domain you register, a few cents that could go to these impoverished children to save their very lives, go instead towards supplementing the already fat salaries of ICANN.”
Zuckerberg’s speech at THE Domain Conference was met with somber faces – some domain investors were caught misty-eyed – and strong applause ensued.
Howard Neu, founder of THE Domain Conference thanked Mark Zuckerberg for “having the guts to say what most world leaders leave untouched.”
THE Domain Conference continues tonight, with delicious hors-d’oeuvres, champagne and lots of music as the number one domain conference based in Florida begins.
Mark indeed have the courage to see what could be a big movement in upcoming years in the domain industry. It definitely makes sense to contribute a small chunk of the profit towards helping. I am sure many domain investors and owners will be more thrilled to support this act and make it happen in the future. I definitely support it.
