The Domain King, Rick Schwartz, took a break from social media between July 4th and Labor Day.
Upon returning, Rick emphasized that as far as domain investment strategies go nothing has changed.
Rick noted that investments versus gambling involve money that one needs versus money they can afford to lose. The two tiers involve 95% and 5% of the domain industry’s parts respectively:
There are two parts of the domain industry. There’s the investor grade domain industry and the gambling and bumbling part of the industry.
95% of the money is made in the investment industry and every once in a while, someone gets lucky with the other 5%. That’s it!
Regarding proven strategies sourced from his almost 30 years in the domain industry, Rick Schwartz noted that the rules are simple, so simple that it’s becoming a broken record to mention them time and again!
Here are the basic rules when investing in domain names, from the Domain King’s mouth:
- Domain extension must be .COM
- Domain should consist of 2 or 3 letters, a single generic word, or a combination of two words describing a product or service
- Domains must not contain hyphens or digits
- Domains should not infringe upon third-party rights (e.g., trademark, copyright, famous names)
If you’re expecting something more complex, there isn’t any. As Rick said, it is SO SIMPLE.
