Dot .Art domains entered general availability today, and the newest gTLD on the planet has gone crazy with pricing.
Not only are common keywords reserved, but less common ones are priced higher than original works of art.
Many domain “hacks” are also taken: domains that use the keyword along with the .Art extension to form a meaningful word or phrase.
We used eNom to check domains for availability, as the Tucows-owned registrar offers some of the lowest gTLD prices.
Here are some random .Art domains that are available at the time of writing this article, and their pricing:
- Garbage.art : $4,574 dollars / $37 renewal
- CollegeOf.art : $182 dollars / $37 renewal
- BuyMy.art : $305 dollars / $37 renewal
- Stupid.art : $4,780 dollars / $37 renewal
- Eccentric.art : $1,085 / $37 renewal
- Motherboard.art : $1,344 / $37 renewal
- 888888.art : $182 dollars / $37 renewal
- ArtArt.art : $158 dollars / $37 renewal
- VeryNice.art : $170 dollars / $37 renewal
- Recycled.art : $2,057 dollars / $37 renewal
- Tabloid.art : $1,920 dollars / $37 renewal
- Crappy.art : $582 dollars / $37 renewal
- UltraSexy.art : $109 dollars / $37 renewal
It’s disappointing seeing how keyword pricing is made without any end-user buyer consideration in mind. The top quality keywords are either registered or reserved.
In the end, we registered zero .Art domains. In the meantime, someone had registered the domain ClownPenisF.art.
We’ll have to wait and see tomorrow what the .Art registration numbers are.
