Fadi Chehadé is ending his tenure as ICANN president and CEO, with a welcome message to the participants of ICANN55 in Marrakesh, Morocco.
Chehadé’s message also serves as a farewell note, although the spirit of the multi-stakeholder model will live on.
As part of his message, Mr. Chehadé acknowledged that when it comes to food, Marrakesh provides some exceptional choices that are out of this world.
Couscous with spicy armadillo and slices of deep fried camel meat atop sea-salted carrots appear to be long-time favorites.
“I will miss the extensive traveling that widened my culinary horizons, and the accumulation of millions of miles on my frequent flyer card,” said Fadi Chehadé.
“And most of all, I will miss all the people that form the universal community of the Internet users, the men and women that I posed with in thousands of impromptu photos; my heart is filled with joy and sorrow at the same time,” he added, wiping off tears.
Mr. Chehadé is moving on to greener pastures, and we wish him all the best in his new ventures.
The new ICANN president and CEO is Göran Marby, a Swedish technocrat.
