It’s always refreshing to hear stories of success from women domain investors, as the domain industry appears to be male-dominated.
Mary Jo Rohner operates several eBay stores full-time, including VetteGal.com which specializes in 1953-1962, new, used and reproduction parts for Corvettes; her domain outlet is DotComSafari.com.
This is her 100% true story about her personal and business journey.
“You could say I’m an obsessive collector of Las Vegas, Hawaii, Lawyer and Loan domain names. All along, my intention has been to make residual income from my domain portfolio, so I could have a great life style.
My journey started more than a decade ago, in 2000. I registered domain names day and night and saw the sun come up twice, when the idea hit.
The road was rocky, as a so-called friend stole all my names in 2005 and I had to involve a lawyer, who retrieved the names in 10 days from that incident.
Later on, I met Sevan Derderian when he was at Domain Sponsor, and he took me out to one of the finest dinners I have ever had at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
After this, I moved my domains and parked them at Domain Sponsor, then to Parked and to VooDoo; and now, I am in big hopes that Frank Schilling will be my savior! My domain names are now parked at Domain Name Sales with a BIN price. Uniregistry seems to be creating the future, just what I saw back in the year 2000. They are ahead of the pack.
I created 361 websites, such as LawMinds.com, FundAfrica.com, LasVegasHotelsWorld.com, GunPlayer.com, BajaBeachVacation.com and many more and thought Google AdSense would pay.
When I login to my Google account they make maybe $3-4 each, every month. I no longer bother checking, as I refuse to look at knowing 2000-3000 people visited each web site, and left comments while I make nearly nothing.
I have had much success with Sedo Pro selling my names with a BIN price. Sometimes Sedo will sell two domains in one day for me.
I have built 5 eBay stores, and plan on putting my stores on each domain, in the future.
My main domain store is DotComSafari.com. I have 2300 domains listed there, and I am only 25% done, creating pictures to tell my vision of the story, about each domain. I have over 10,000 buy it now products on the web, from all my stores.
When I lived in Wisconsin at the age of 4, my Dad taught me to ice fish. I would skate from tip up to tip up and catch the fish.
I use the same theory in everyday life and stay busy selling products with Buy It Now buttons, and it’s surprising to watch items sell every day. The system works, and I stay busy selling my own products each day, and hopefully domain names.
As a business person, I have many new ideas and always in hopes of finding the time to build these out, and make them a success!”
Thank you, Mary Jo, for sharing your life’s story with us.
Folks, time to check out the DotComSafari domain store on eBay! 😀
Great story, but she has 2400 domains listed on ebay, with 5 solid ebay sales in the past 4 years, last sale coming almost a year ago, I guess there is to much jargon to sift thru via ebay to get to the good domains. Nice article, thanks, for sharing.
Ron – I agree that eBay might not be the perfect environment to facilitate domain sales; still, this shows the effort and perseverance needed to succeed.
A great success story, 361+ websites too, that’s an impressive portfolio, but not sure if it’s all for AdSense? Or resale websites etc. Anyway, a great read!
