Michelle.org: US Army retiree’s domain auctioned off

Imagine putting up your personal details on a domain that is then auctioned off, when you don’t renew it.

For years, the domain Michelle.org was resolving to a web site created by Michelle, a “68 year old woman of the lesbian persuasion.”

That was in 2010 and we’re cool with that. The US Army retiree served in the military for 22 years, entered the software industry and once again retired in 2001 when the dot-com bubble burst. She ran at least two full marathons, in 2008 and 2010.

Unfortunately, Michelle passed away in late 2020 as this obituary shows.

She was 78.

Michelle.org was registered in 1997 and remained in Michelle’s possession until her passing. The domain dropped and was just auctioned off on DropCatch, with the top bid reaching $3,466 dollars.

It’s not uncommon for domains of people who have passed to drop, if they have made no provisions to transfer them over to family members.
