An American punk rock band from Washington state have seen their popularity rise in China, and are wondering why.
MxPx formed in 1992 with the name Magnified Plaid; their initials, M.P. were hand-written in such a way, that the dots resembled little “x” letters and the name stuck.
After almost 25 years, the band is currently playing in London, UK along with Screeching Weasel.
“We’ve seen tremendous interest from Chinese audiences as of late, and can’t figure it out really,” said Marcus ‘Leech’ Kobayne, chief drummer for the group.
“I mean, dozens of inquiries arrive through the contact form at MxPx.com, asking to sell. We do sell merchandise and our music, for sure, but these guys from China never reply,” added Kobayne.
Apparently, the proliferation of “Chinese premium” letters among the Chinese domain investors, led many to contact the band, hoping to buy the domain.
As usual, the lowball offers are in the $100 dollar range, despite the domain name MxPx.com being “quad premium.”
“We’d never sell the domain, it’s our brand, and those who want it, piss off tossers!” said Kobayne, sticking his tongue out in typical punk rock style.
If you’re in London and want to attend the MxPx concert tickets are still available via MxPx.com.
