One million .XYZ domains are missing from the zone files, and are about to drop.
Current registration numbers show that while there are 5.6 million registered .XYZ domains, a total of 4.6 million exist in the zone files.
The difference, one million .XYZ domains, is the imminent drop size during the 35 day window.
The .XYZ gTLD has already lost one million domains since April, and the upcoming drop echoes the results of last summer’s penny promo.
Such promotional registrations have less than a 5% retain rate, according to data analysts.
It is not exactly clear if the .XYZ Registry is back in business in China, and we are not aware of any changes from two months ago.
One thing is certain: Western keywords are not popular in China, where the main focus remains on short, numeric domains in every TLD, ccTLD and gTLD.

It’s one thing to make sales numbers look good with one-penny domains but the flip side of that are the visuals of losing so many. of a top tier string, which will reverberate to other gTLDs. It’s a down market but this looks like bad timing. That’s an earned error.
