OneCloud.com auction press release claims the #domain existed in the 1990s

A press release making the wire announced the availability of the domain OneCloud.com via an auction process.

The announcement is foreseeing a “seven figure sum” for the domain, but contains an important inaccuracy.

Says the article:

“That is the verdict of Andrew Miller, president at ATM Holdings. Miller is helping conduct the transaction having been contacted by an individual seller. The seller, who has owned the domain since the early 1990s and has worked as a senior technology executive, ‘had a very hard time deciding whether to let it go’, according to Miller, but relented after consultations and agreeing that the time was right.”

The claim that the domain existed since the early 1990s is a full decade off, as the domain OneCloud.com was registered in 2000.

Although old domains are indeed more valuable than later registrations, what matters is being accurate about a domain’s registration date, to establish its ownership timeline as well.
