Puerto Rico is up in arms after its governor, Ricardo Rosselló, used Telegram to exchange a long series of derogatory messages.
The governor’s messages targeted minorities and spoke about women and political opponents with strong racist overtones – a behavior reminiscent of Donald Trump’s “grab her by the pussy” charade, only worse.
Accusations of corruption and mismanagement are now adding fuel to the fire, with thousands of people in Puerto Rico demanding the governor’s resignation.
The message “Ricky renuncia” is replicated across social media, with organized events pressing for change. On Change.org, there are more than 250,000 signatures petitioning for the governor’s resignation.
With the message being “Ricky renuncia,” the registration and use of the matching domain name, RickyRenuncia.com is an example of how a viral phrase can be transformed into a protest web site.
Registered on July 14th, the domain name acts as a portal to articles about the ongoing political scandal in Puerto Rico.
