Spaceship, the domain registrar owned by Namecheap, has announced that it will no longer allow the listing or sale of .in domains through its SellerHub platform. The decision follows registry rules set by the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI), which prohibits the sale of .in domains on third-party marketplaces.

In a notice sent to customers, Spaceship explained that all domains under the .in extension, including .co.in, .org.in, .net.in, and others, have been removed from SellerHub accounts. According to the registrar, a technical issue had temporarily allowed these domains to be listed despite registry restrictions, but compliance measures have now been enforced.
“The .in domain registry prohibits the listing or sale of these domains on third-party marketplaces, including SellerHub,” the company told customers, clarifying that no further action is needed as the removals have already taken place.
Why this matters:
The move underscores the tight control NIXI places on the Indian namespace. Unlike many global domain extensions, .in domains come with restrictions around where and how they may be traded. Marketplaces integrated directly with registrars, like Spaceship’s SellerHub, fall under those prohibitions.
It’s worth noting that independent domain marketplaces, such as Sedo, continue to allow listings of .in domains. This distinction highlights the difference between registrar-operated sales platforms and external domain aftermarket venues.
For customers holding valuable .in domains at Spaceship, the main change is that these assets can no longer be listed through SellerHub. Investors seeking to market their names will need to rely on external venues such as Sedo.com or direct outreach strategies.
