Advertising about domain services on Facebook, has its pros and cons.
It’s a cheap form of reaching out to hundreds or thousands of eyeballs that spend half their lifespan on updating Facebook statuses.
At the same time, your target audience might be completely inept to understanding domain names or technology.
A post by GoDaddy on Facebook received 3.5k likes, after it used the photo of a skunk following a person closely.
The post was titled:
“PICKING A WEB ADDRESS? AVOID THESE STINKY DOMAIN NAMING MISTAKES.”
Most of the comments seem to focus on the picture of the skunk, completely ignoring the message, which apparently wasn’t even clicked on.
Here are some of the most hilarious ones: 😀
- The odor
- Smell is to much.
- They’ll stink to much.
- What a beautiful skunk
- You can have there odor glands removed then they can not spray. It is best to get them when they are still young. My Uncle had one when I was younger, it wandered into the garage
- A friend like that will keep a lot of unwanted away from your home.
- Â I love to pet skunk cuz my ex-wife had one and very cute. None oder.
Fortunately, a couple of observant Facebook members did read the ad, such as this person:
“This was a very good, well-written article for someone deciding on a website name.
Seems like only Linda Knight Martin and myself actually read it. It has nothing to do with the skunk. Maybe in the sense that you’re skunking yourself if you pick the wrong name. Gotcha FB surfers!”
Truly hilarious. 😀 To read the very informative article without the Facebook commentary, click here.
