Thomas Cook airlines left about 600,000 travelers stranded between the UK and various European destinations.
That’s what happens when you pick a cheap-ass airline to visit Greece! 😀
The package holiday airline provided millions of Britons with cheap packages for trips to the Mediterranean, but it has now entered liquidation.
According to a message on ThomasCook.com, the effects are immediate:
Thomas Cook UK Plc and associated UK entities have entered Compulsory Liquidation and are now under the control of the Official Receiver.
The UK business has ceased trading with immediate effect and all future flights and holidays are cancelled.
Registered in 1995, the domain ThomasCook.com will now be part of the asset liquidation process. It’s almost certain that the company’s assets, including the domain name, will be acquired by another entity.
What happens after a transitional period, is that the old brand is dropped like a hot potato. The domain ThomasCook.com will most likely left to expire, and after dropping it will be picked up by a company such as DropCatch, to be auctioned off among domain name speculators.
It might take a couple of years, but there’s no future in that domain’s life independently from the airline. Who was Thomas Cook anyway?
Another candidate for the “failed brands” category of international companies!
