In early December, we pointed out that 2018 is the Year of the Dog, in the Chinese calendar.
There are only two animals from the Chinese zodiac that match new gTLDs: dot .horse, and dot .dog. They can both be used to form “domain hacks” and thus utilize the Chinese calendar that rotates every 12 years.
While YearOfThe.Horse has been registered since 2014, the domain YearOfThe.Dog had not been claimed.
Someone took our advice, however, and registered YearOfThe.Dog two days later. 😀
Of course, the domain will be obsolete for 11 years after 2018, but who cares, it’s a great gimmick throughout next year.
