John Stamos, the Greek-American actor best known for his role in the ABC sitcom comedy “Full House” recently acted in a Greek yogurt commercial.
The big push for Greek-style yogurt has reached new competition levels in the US, with several companies claiming to offer the best Greek style yogurt.
John Stamos stars in a commercial promoting the Oikos yogurt brand, which is a registered trademark among yogurts.
Oikos, however, means “house” or “home” in Greek and poor old John can’t pronounce it properly: the letters omicron and iota in Greek form a diphthong that sounds like “ee”. John plays along with the Oikos yogurt makers and pronounces it as two separate letters.
The web site for Oikos yogurt is naturally OikosYogurt.com while a company offering environmentally friendly home constructions owns the generic Oikos.com
Other popular Greek style yogurt brands include Chobani (shepherd in Greek) and Voskos (the Greek word for sheep shepherd) both of which are registered trademarks. While we don’t understand how it’s possible to grant trademark status to words used in another language, Voskos owns GreekStyleYogurt.com as well. Nice 😀
For those of you that want to taste the real thing, we recommend the Greek FAGE yogurt – it’s the best. 😀

Actually, the best yoghurt around is Mediterenee, by Liberte. If you live west or south of NY State, you probably can’t get it. It’s made in Quebec with milk from Vermont, it’s not low-fat (much less non-fat), and it’s better than sex.
