What is missing in the domaining world?

Living and breathing domain names on a daily basis, one probably comes across that point sooner or later: a feeling that something is lacking.

A very interesting thread over at DNForum attempts to address just that, asking fellow domain investors what is missing in the domaining world?

Most answers are single words, and yet define eloquently the shortcomings of an industry that aspires to become bigger and better.

The introduction of hundreds of new gTLDs has become a pivoting point, providing thousands of professionals with a glimpse of the future.

Meanwhile, questions such as these indicate that there is plenty of work to be done, before that future materializes:

“What is missing in the Domaining world?”

  • Ethics
  • Money
  • Common sense
  • Service to others
  • Specific software tools
  • Certification
  • People that understand when to sell
  • Partnerships
  • Transparency

As domain investors, this is the question to ask ourselves in the coming days, weeks and months.

Domaining needs a lot of improvement; it won’t happen overnight, and it won’t happen if you simply sit on your butt waiting for a change.
