Domain king of Madagascar.com

Madagascar is a sovereign island country—officially the Republic of Madagascar—independent since 1960, with its capital at Antananarivo and full UN membership.

This 592,000 square km island off Africa’s southeast coast is home to about 32 million people, mostly farmers, and governed from its highland capital, Antananarivo.

Who says you can’t buy an entire country?

The matching domain, Madagascar.com, was acquired by Media Options founder, Drew Rosener.

Registered in 1997, the domain Madagascar.com appears to have been in the possession of a man named Jean-Pierre Deslandes, a Malagasy of apparent French origin.

Rosener shared the acquisition news on X:

“Bought a country today in cyberspace. I’m king now. King of Madagascar. Madagascar(.)com that is…”

Country geo-domains can become very lucrative brands; for now, the domain appears to host a newly constructed tourism blog about Madagascar—what else? 🙂

Congratulations to the new domain king of Madagascar!
