Everything has a price and in the case of location sharing service Gowalla the rumored range is in the $40 to $60 million.
Now it was made official; Facebook acquired the service and promptly shut it down. They don’t need the Gowalla data either, just the brains behind the operation!
“Gowalla, as a service, will be winding down at the end of January. We plan to provide an easy way to export your Passport data, your Stamp and Pin data (along with your legacy Item data), and your photos as well. Facebook is not acquiring Gowalla’s user data.”
Seems that Facebook, keen on stealing the #1 position in world domination from Google, copies its practices of buying and shutting down services as well!
Thanks a lot, Mark Zuckerberg! 🙁
