Trayvon hood: Trademark application challenges that of killed teen’s mother

Trayvon Martin was wearing a hoodie when he was shot dead by George Zimmerman.

The mother of Trayvon Martin, the 17 year old student that was killed a month ago while walking home from a convenience store, applied for two trademarks related to her late son: I AM TRAYVON and JUSTICE FOR TRAYVON.

Both of those marks were applied for a range of digital materials, such as DVDs, CDs and other audiovisual material, specifically:

IC 009. US 021 023 026 036 038. G & S: Digital materials, namely, CDs and DVDs featuring TRAYVON MARTIN; Digital media, namely, pre-recorded DVDs, downloadable audio and video recordings, and CDs featuring and promoting TRAYVON MARTIN; Digital media, namely, pre-recorded video cassettes, digital video discs, digital versatile discs, downloadable audio and video recordings, DVDs, and high definition digital discs featuring TRAYVON MARTIN; Digital media, namely, CDs and DVDs featuring TRAYVON MARTIN; DVD cases; DVD sleeves; DVDs featuring TRAYVON MARTIN

Trayvon was shot and killed by a guy named George Zimmerman who allegedly acted in self-defense; at the time of the incident, Trayvon was wearing a hoodie.

Not surprisingly someone is trying to capitalize on the “hoodie” notoriety and applied for the mark JUSTICE FOR TRAYVON, for:

IC 025. US 022 039. G & S: Hooded sweatshirts

Classy! Not! 🙁

  1. The entire situation is unfortunate. As far as people outside of Trayvon’s family trying to capitalize on the situation, it truly shows how greed has effected this country. I’m glad that his mother has filed those trademarks. She obviously has a legal team who is coaching her through this entire process. The family deserves every cent coming to them for this unfortunate tragedy. I am sure they will put the money to good use in challenging the law which kept Zimmerman from being arrested that night.

Jason – Absolutely. Shame seeing someone else unrelated to the family stepping in to capitalize on the human loss.
