Bidding on trademark domains:
Forget what you hear at major conferences, what you read in blogs and the like. It’s all garbage.
The fact is, that everybody is doing it, even uber-domainers like – for example – Frank Schilling bidding on Namejet’s auction of zaria.com earlier today.
What’s the catch?
First rule of the game is to locate a domain that the respective trademark is owned by a company outside of the United States. Even if they have a registered trademark, the further they are in the Old World, the better.
Second rule: ensure that your bidding never reaches within 10% of a UDRP fee. Preferably, bid much lower, without reaching four figures.
That’s the strategy, folks.
Never break these rules, always let others break them.
With a little bit of practice you will be able to obtain good domains, aged domains, domains with traffic that generate revenue or that can be resold at a premium price.
It’s the uber-domainer way!
