No photos please, we’re the Kardashians

Shane had a great time at Webfest, no doubt.

Any domain industry event that caters to the general public and not just domainers, is taking a fresh look at how business is done; with that in mind, Webfest was definitely a successful milestone.

And yet, Shane confirmed what I suspected all along, due to the lack of any Kardashian photography from the event: Kim didn’t want any up close and personal shots.

Obviously, what with being an online publication that produces parody material – as well as reporting on news in the domain industry – we had to invent one such photo.

But why, when the news is laden with Kim Kardashian’s photos dailysome of which are not very flattering – deny the opportunity to people that paid for an attendance ticket, to be photographed with a real world celebrity?

Apparently, when Kim’s photos are taken on the street or elsewhere, she’s in-between entering buildings and vehicles; the opportunity to catch a compromising shot must be hard even for the most skilled paparazzo. But at Webfest, if she were to be bombarded with flash photography throughout her entire speech, there would have been a lengthy window to take photos that could be out of control.

Out of control“, as in, photos that could be resold to any online or offline media repository, newspaper, magazine – or any other venue that profits from the daily life of celebrities, and the Kardashians in particular.

If I had paid for a ticket, I would be upset at Oversee, however; unless their flamboyant announcement on the keynote speaker of Webfest came with a “no photos will be allowed” disclaimer.

I would have been pissed if they told me ‘no pics allowed’.
