In November of last year, we announced the acquisition of the domain name, Gamepedia.com, by online games giant, Curse Incorporated. Gamepedia.com was acquired for euro 15000 or just under $20,000 at the time.
Gamepedia.com has been in use since then, serving millions of pages of games-related content.
It’s shocking to see, however, that it took almost 7 months for the domain to move out of Sedo escrow!
According to data from Domaintools, the WHOIS of Gamepedia.com remained as follows since November:
Service, Transfer transferservice@sedo.com
Sedo 161 First St, 4 Floor Cambridge, MA 02142
United States
617-499-7200 Fax — 617-499-7203
This happens more often than what you think: a domain buyer neglects to update the WHOIS information after the domain is moved to their account.
Gamepedia.com was due to expire on June 1st, 2013 and apparently Sedo started receiving notifications for its renewal. The domain is now moved under the control of Curse, Inc. and has been renewed for another year.
Buyers of domains are advised to update the WHOIS information of their acquisitions, as soon as they assume control of the domain after a transaction takes place.
