Dot .com was a really bad idea, says ICANN official

With 909 new gTLDs getting the passing grade so far, ICANN is once again evaluating its support of the original TLDs.

“We need to go through the documentation and examine how .com made the cut in 1985, it’s shocking really,” says Milosh Fritcz of ICANN-Hungary.

“Dot .com was from the very beginning a very, very bad idea, that held technological and social progress back for almost 30 years. Now we are about to change history once and for all.” added Fritcz, a strong opponent of .com, .net and .org domains.

More than 1,000 gTLDs will thus become available by the end of the year, and thousands more will follow in 2014 and 2015. By 2017, it’s expected that gTLD application fees will drop to between $20 and $45, making it unnecessary to register domain names.

“In the near future, everyone will be applying for and registering gTLDs, that’s why if you own .com domains, you are about to have a rude awakening!” exclaimed the ICANN official, pointing to a map on the wall depicting ICANN as the Fourth Reich.

The upcoming demise of dot .com is expected to occur sometime between 2019 and 2021, the pre-dawn of the age of Aquarius. If you own any .com domains, sell them now, or let them expire.
