Adidas has revealed the ‘Brazuca” – the official soccer (football) match ball for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
It’s a complete redesign of the erratically-behaving “Jabulani” that brought many odd kicks during the last World Cup in 2010.
This time around, the Brazuca ball is said to have been tested extensively; it sports six boomerang shaped sections, as well as slightly raised texture “nubs“, oddly similar to those on a basketball.
These features promise to deliver great control over the ball’s aerodynamics.
Adidas priced the Brazuca ball at $160 for the official version; there are two other versions available, including a mini ball.
Despite the marketing efforts of Adidas to deliver a “Brazilian Bazooka” brand, there is one slight problem: Brazuca.com is taken and used as a Brazilian news portal since at least 2006. The domain existed in 2001 but apparently was left to expire and dropped.
Soccer is the most popular team sport in the world, and unlike in the US, it’s called “football” by its billions of fans.
Are you ready for World Cup 2014 yet? 😀
