The quality of networking among domain industry professionals during NamesCon generated plenty of meaningful interaction.
Due to the sheer number of participants and exhibitors, interaction flowed naturally throughout the day.
At night, with the reinforcement of alcoholic beverages, additional meetings and gatherings took place, forging potential business relationships.
A sample of all this, can be outlined as follows – we removed some of the info that would identify the people involved.
What happens in Vegas, should stay in Vegas. Right? 😀
- Someone brought their baby to NamesCon; at the same time, at least one septuagenarian attended the conference. Great age spread!
- An investor disclosed that he acquired a four letter .com for six figures; he also had a seven figure offer during the conference, which he turned down.
- At least two male domainers had a serious crush for two female exhibitors, and they openly flirted with them. We aren’t sure what happened after hours.
- Fact: One can survive day one on a beer and donuts diet and two hours of sleep. Day two requires at least four hours of sleep and a seriously huge breakfast.
- Some great dance talent goes untapped; Victor and Braden surely know how to move like Mick Jagger.
- The mature, “asset pushing” lady with a printed domain portfolio wore a longer skirt this time around; good genes are great to have, but aging takes no prisoners.
- Don’t try to stuff large Jenga tiles into your back pockets as souvenirs, or you might think you still have your phone with you. Luckily, the phone was reclaimed later that night.
- Massages offered at the conference were invigorating. One lady domainer referred to the one she received as “better than having an orgasm.” We didn’t get her number.
- There was a printed pass at the registration booth with Rick’s name on it.
- Most panelists felt comfortable in front of the crowds that attended, but guys: socks should match the pants in color, ok?
- It takes an average of four alcoholic beverages to utter the words “I love you, man.“
- Amanda gives great haircuts. Jothan looks badass.
- Playing ping pong is a great exercise and it fit the conference’s young and active character quite well.
- With famous names like Frank or Zappy we can’t talk about anything that was discussed. Let’s just say it was surreal.
- Taking Airborne or other vitamins a week before the conference ensures staying in good shape.
- There is indeed room for three domain escrow services, and they can all share the same room.
- GoDaddy is the most known destination to register domains, even if that’s all that one knows about domains – as told by a WaterNight ‘hula’ girl.
- Some participants took the “WaterNight” reference literally and walked around with a bottle of water and drank no alcohol. Really?
- Elliot knows how to give great “elbow high fives.” The .com is available.
- Past the open hour at the bar, they can hold your id hostage in exchange until you pay in cash – no credit accepted.
- You don’t have to be a gTLD fan in order to appreciate the discussions on the widening of the Internet name space.
- There were several marketing/PR professionals attending, not directly linked to the domain industry. A good sign of how interest in the community is about to expand.
- At least four NamesCon participants fly their own aircraft. Some do so while being tipsy.
- Taking the expo panels down and packing everything is faster than setting things up; everyone wants to hit the clubs, eat, drink and be merry. Well deserved.
- Tipping the bathroom attendant a $10 earns you the response “thank you, boss!“
See y’all at NamesCon 2015.
Thanks for telling me what I missed. Sounds like it was great.
