Google ready to cut down on spam by identifying Unicode combinations

No more spam from iWeb's PrivateDNS.com - The spammer has been kicked out.

Less spam to your Gmail account.

If you were to write the word Google using two Greek omicron letters, it would look like this: Gοοgle.

Visually, it is the same result, but this technique has been used by spammers to evade spam filters and to deliver “viagra” spam and other such unwanted goodies. The use of letters in non-Latin alphabets has been one of the last remaining bastions of spammers, in order to avoid filtration of their junk.

Google is now changing their Gmail algorithm, in a manner that combats those elusive spam emails.

The changes were rolled out yesterday, and there are some great tips on that page by Google, regarding the safe delivery of solicited emails, as opposed to unsolicited “spam.”
