Facebook announced the introduction of Messenger Platform today, during its F8 conference.
In a nutshell, Messenger Platform is the underlying technology that allows apps to share components and deliver content via the Facebook Messenger, providing an improved user experience.
Without leaving the communication thread via Messenger, apps using the Messenger Platform can now quickly incorporate their content, such as images, video, emojis etc. into the discussion.
The Messenger Platform by Facebook is open to all developers.
While Facebook owns Messenger.com, someone grabbed MessengerPlatform.com earlier today, according to DomainTools.
For more information on Messenger Platform, visit Messenger.com, a domain that was acquired in late October 2014 for an undisclosed amount.
