May 6th is the deadline for parties interested in submitting bids for the intellectual property of now defunct RadioShack.
The auction includes numerous assets, including registered trademarks, patents, franchise relationships and even a database of 65 million customers!
Let’s not forget the domain portfolio, comprising of 295 domain names.
There are some really old domain names on that list!
Although the auction is scheduled for May 11th, it is still not yet authorized, due to the inclusion of the customer database; attorneys general in 36 states and two wireless telephony companies are crying foul over the inclusion of this type of information, which involves names, addresses and naturally, phone numbers.
The solution would be to break the auction into two parts, setting the database separately from the rest.
