The Sherlock Holmes’ estate wants the .com returned

London, England – BBS News

It’s been a while since a fictitious character filed a motion at a court; apparently the estate of the famous detective Sherlock Holmes is now doing just that at a British Royal court.

The estate of Sherlock Holmes is after the domain name John Holmes .com in an attempt to clear the family jewels from the pornographic content depicted at the aforementioned domain name.

John Holmes was an American pornographic actor who died from AIDS-related complications in the late 80’s. He allegedly slept with 10,000 women; something that Sherlock Holmes would never be able to claim, as he was busy preoccupied with solving mysterious crimes.

Doctor Thomas Spinnster of the Sherlock Holmes estate filed the lawsuit at HRH Court of the People of the United Kingdom, early last week. In a brief statement to the British Broadcasting Service he exclaimed: “We shall take back what is our legacy. The bloody Yanks cannot abuse our  trademark.”

It’s not known if the American actor’s estate is going to release the domain to the Sherlock Holmes estate, in order to avoid the negative publicity or whether they will simply release yet another “Best of John Holmes” DVD to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the late actor’s death. Either way, it’ll be an interesting story to watch.
