In just five days from now, the big auction for the domain e.co will be introducing the Colombian ccTLD to all domainers worldwide; a fiesta unlike no other, except perhaps that Shakira won’t be on stage.
Still, there’s plenty of sexiness in the e.co domain, the shortcut to many things electronic, e-commerce, educational and entertaining (think: DomainGang).
It’s quite rare for a Registry to auction off a single letter domain right at the launch of its TLD, much less to offer such a quality letter. Not only that, but as an added bonus, the word “eco” is visually formed, thus opening the opportunity of associating e.co with the shortest possible URL to things about ecology and the environment.
What would famous domainers say, if they had the opportunity to bid on the domain?
Rick Schwartz: Well folks, this is it. I told you so. It’s the single most important moment in your lifetime. I’d hate to see you pick pigeon droppings. This is a fabulous domain. If I hadn’t sold Candy.com I’d be wanting to sell e.co and be part of Internet history.
Frank Schilling: If I had the time to make comments, I’d write at my Seven Mile blog that has been gathering moss for months. Sure, why not. I love e.co and maybe I will bid on it from my home in the Caymans. You know I let several .tv domains drop, right? So now I have lots of cash.
Kevin Ham: As “the man who owns the Internet” I would love to own e.co as well. Gotta catch them all! Seriously, owning e.co would be an opportunity for other domainers to despise me even more. I don’t care, I am successful and – hold on, have a call from Hong Kong waiting, catch you later.
Ron Jackson: All these years as a journalist, father and loving husband I have never seen such a beauty before. The e.co auction will attract thousands of visitors to the auction site at Sedo and I will be announcing details about its sale soon after at DNJournal, even photos from the individual bids!
Rick Latona: I have the best of the best, the very bestest domains at every TRAFFIC event that I organize. And yet, e.co slipped away. Yes, a remarkable domain and you know pretty well that I love buying and selling things. So this is a great auction. See you in TRAFFIC Vancouver in a few days.
Hank Alvarez: Oh darn it. If only that were around when I was with Snapnames, I’d rig the auction to win it myself! But I can’t bid as I’m on sabbatical in Tibet. Sorry folks and best of luck to e.co

I’ll be watching that auction, it seems that it will attract bidders from outside the domainer community.
