CaféX Communications, an award-winning workplace collaboration software vendor, has filed a lawsuit against Amazon Web Services (AWS.)
The lawsuit is related to trademark infringement related to the name of AWS’s recently announced video-conferencing product, Amazon Chime.
The Amazon product can be seen at Chime.AWS.
CaféX Communications launched its own product, called Chime a year ago, promoting it as a complete, easy to deploy video-conferencing solution, suitable for web chat and document collaboration.
The product was demoed during the Enterprise Connect 2016 business conference, and Chime won the best of the show award.
According to the lawsuit, a member of Amazon’s AWS team attended the same business show and was shown the product:
“Not only is it essentially impossible for AWS to have been ignorant of CafeX’sCHIME product and service before launching its competing product and service in light of industry acclaim received by CafeX for its CHIME product and service over the past year, but an AWS employee with the title Principal Product Manager visited CafeX’s 2016 Enterprise Connect’s booth where CafeX’s CHIME product and service was being heavily promoted under the CHIME Trademarks.“
