A massive data breach at Equifax means that as many as 143 million profiles are in the hands of cybercriminals.
Ironically, Equifax is one of the three US credit bureaus, and they issue credit scores related to the credit-worthiness of Americans.
Today, Equifax said in a press release that the so-called unauthorized access was discovered in July, and a forensics firm investigated the incident; as many as 209,000 US consumers’ credit card numbers might be compromised, as part of the data breach.
Equifax set up a web site, at EquifaxSecurity2017.com to enroll for updates to a possible inclusion to the data breach. The web site allows consumers to begin the process of enrolling to a free credit monitoring service.
Meanwhile, the domain EquifaxDataBreach.com was registered today. The registrant appears to be a law office, Gallo Law, and their web site is Gallo.Law.

Mr. Smith said he is offering a service free to consumers. Is he then going to give us the service and monitor it, keep us informed and take care of any financial problems?
