The #Domains : Going full force after Twitter is the right approach

Mike Berkens, Esq. owner of TheDomains.com.

TheDomains.com owner, attorney Mike Berkens, filed a lawsuit against Twitter yesterday, accusing the platform of gross negligence for failing to protect and restore his hacked Twitter account, thedomains.

The lawsuit seeks monetary damages of at least $75,000 dollars and serves as a reminder of the importance and rising value of social media accounts linked to popular brands.

A Twitter handle associated with a busy blog that has been extensively promoted on Twitter, is a valuable digital asset. Although not officially supported, sales of premium Twitter accounts is commonplace.

The hacker attempted to sell Mike Berkens’s account, and pocketed $50 in Bitcoin, without returning it. Mike Berkens now tweets from @TheDomainsCom.

The value of followers and history of tweets aren’t the only elements that define the worth of a Twitter account. In the case of TheDomains, extensive, private communication was performed on Twitter, via the use of private messages, that have most likely been compromised.

We’d like to see Twitter act fast on this one by restoring the account promptly, and hopefully the court awards damages as well.

The lawsuit document arrives courtesy of Canadian domain investor, George Kirikos, who acquired it via Pacer.
