A domain investor who attends a prestigious college, reacted to a recent article by Elliot Silver, regarding inquiries arriving from .edu email addresses.
Steve P. Popovitch goes to Brigham Young University, majoring in computer science. He often uses his “.edu” email address to negotiate on domain name acquisitions and sales.
“I didn’t understand why other domainers would not respond to my queries, and after reading Elliot’s article, it’s now clear: they don’t like my .edu email address,” said Steve P. Popovitch.
“I’m really hurt, as I work hard at college and have earned the right to use the cs.byu.edu email address. I’m sorry, but that’s how I feel, and I don’t want to switch over to a Gmail,” added Popovitch.
Hundreds of inquiries from .edu email addresses arrive in the mailboxes of premium domain holders daily.
Quite often, they seek “academic discounts” for these domains, expecting them to be granted.
“At the end of the day, I am really proud of my background and academic status, and I will continue emailing Elliot from an .edu email address, he’s a cool guy and will eventually respond, I hope!” exclaimed Steve P. Popovitch.
If you received an email about your domain names from an “.edu” address, be considerate: it might be a professor inquiring, or even the college’s Dean.
