“Free Guy” is a fun new movie starring the very talented Ryan Reynolds, with the motto “Life’s too short to be a background character.”
In a nutshell, a bank teller called Guy realizes he is a background character in an open world video game called Free City that will soon go offline.
Thanks to a program developed by programmers Millie (Comer) and Keys (Keery) inserted into Free City by the publisher Antwan (Waititi), Guy becomes self-aware of his world being a video game, and takes steps to make himself the hero, creating a race against time to save the game before the developers can shut it down.
Meanwhile, the domain FreeGuy.com is a former Marchex asset, transferred to GoDaddy via its acquisition of that domain portfolio in 2017. FreeGuy.com can be acquired from NameFind, the GoDaddy owned repository of domains, or via Afternic.
The price for FreeGuy.com is currently at $5,499 dollars (BIN) with offers of at least $3,574 dollars being accepted. That’s a minimum asking price set at 65% of the BIN, a practice that GoDaddy is somehow enforcing on its Afternic and GoDaddy Auctions marketplaces without any specific reasoning. In essence, GoDaddy/NameFind pulls that 35% discount out of their collective behind.
Will 20th Century Studios buy the domain FreeGuy.com or is it too late? The movie “Free Guy” is scheduled for release at theaters this coming Friday, August 13.
