Verisign, operators of the .com and .net TLDs released its Q2/2021 domain report.
According to the report, .com and .net TLDs had a combined total of 170.6 million domain name registrations in the domain name base at the end of the second quarter of 2021, an increase of 2.6 million domain name registrations, or 1.5%, compared to the first quarter of 2021.
The .com and .net TLDs had a combined increase of 8.5 million domain name registrations, or 5.2%, year over year. As of June 30, 2021, the .com domain name base totaled 157.0 million domain name registrations, and the .net domain name base totaled 13.6 million domain name registrations.
Meanwhile, the number of global domain names increased as well: The second quarter of 2021 closed with 367.3 million domain name registrations across all top-level domains (TLDs), an increase of 3.8 million domain name registrations, or 1.0%, compared to the first quarter of 2021. Domain name registrations have decreased by 2.8 million, or 0.7%, year over year, however.
What about ccTLDs?
Total country-code TLD (ccTLD) domain name registrations were 157.7 million at the end of the second quarter of 2021, an increase of 1.2 million domain name registrations, or 0.8%, compared to the first quarter of 2021. ccTLDs decreased by 2.4 million domain name registrations, or 1.5%, year over year.
Lastly, the data for gTLDs:
Total new gTLD (ngTLD) domain name registrations were 22.9 million at the end of the second quarter of 2021, an increase of less than 0.1 million domain name registrations, or 0.2%, compared to the first quarter of 2021. ngTLDs decreased by 8.8 million domain name registrations, or 27.8%, year over year.
