I have never even seen one before….but I think 3d is going places where most ‘visual / watchable media’….always ends up, sooner or later:

Dan – I don’t disagree, in general. The point I’m attempting to make is that domainers should not view this as yet another opportunity to register every keyword under the sun with “3d” as the prefix 😉

I agree whole heartily…. I think people are really stretching it on a lot of “3d” domains.
But,
It is really amazing how far back some of the really good 3D domain were registered.
But… I think people are concentrated on putting ‘3d “in front of ‘bad keywords, when they may be much better of with a domain… with the “3d” in the middle or at the end of…. much better and sensible “keyword(s)”.
I know you, like me have seen many 3d-domain names…that make absolute no sense at all….in any way, shape or form.

You will notice all the links had nothing to do with: TV, movies from studios or games….which 95% of people think about when the subject of “3D” comes up.

Obviously, the concept of 3D or anything three-dimensional isn’t new. Even when things are flat but presented to imitate the three dimensions (e.g. in video games that employ perspective) the use of 3D indicates realism and advancement.
It’s strange seeing 3D becoming a buzzword again, 25 years after I experienced it in Tron 🙂

Well I am a 3D domain investor and I think the good names will do very well. As its been said above, people must stop grabbing 3DRandomKeyword.com names and focus on products that are either out or are being developed
I have quite a few 3D names and I am getting offers on a weekly basis, so at least I know I will at least break even…
I believe Movies, Sport, Printing, Movies, TV, Gaming and Porn will be the big winners in the industry

Not all the sales are that big and I agree with the 3D+Random+Keyword names being a waste of money…I never mentioned anything about “huge” sales, but there have been some nice sales considering how new the technology is and bear in mind its still in its infancy

I chat to a few of the premium 3D name owners and there are plenty of very nice offers being rejected (including myself)

Get the right 3d domains under your belt now and they will sell for big bucks in the next 1-2 years. I have a few, 3dsmartphone.com, 3dconsole.com and 3dhorror.com. Some of my friends have winners such as 3dchannel.com , 3dlaptop.com and so on. Just registering any crap is upto you, however I think domains that are tech related are the best. Just my opinion.
