HubSpot, Inc., operators of the premium domain Connect.com, have filed for the registration of the matching mark, CONNECT.COM, at the USPTO.
The mark application was filed with an intent to use clause and for the following services:
Online social networking services provided through a community website
Connect.com was acquired by HubSpot in April of this year for an undisclosed sum. The domain was listed for sale with an eight figure price tag prior, in excess of $11 million dollars.
HubSpot founder, Dharmesh Shah, has increased his acquisition budget for premium domain names ever since HubSpot became a major CRM services provider. In the distant past, Mr. Shah referred to domain investors as “squatters.”

It’s an ongoing trend among owners of generic domain names, following the decision by SCOTUS on the Booking.com trademark application.
Since then, dozens of generic domain names have been applied to be registered as trademarks, inclusive of the TLD.
As of January 5th, 2021, BOOKING.COM is a registered trademark with the USPTO.
