Drug domains: Homeland Security Investigations seized illegal drug marketplace

The US Homeland Security Investigations department (HSI) has seized a number of domain names that operated illegal drug marketplaces, including synthetic hallucinogenics.

The domain seizure announcement was posted on the following domain names:

  • 1cplsd.com
  • lizardlabs.eu
  • rarechems.com
  • synexsynthetics.com

The following message appears:

This domain has been seized by U.S. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), in accordance with a seizure warrant issued pursuant to 21 U.S.C. §§ 853(a)(2), 881(a)(2), and 970, by the United States District Court for the District of Maryland as part of a law enforcement action by HSI with support from other U.S. and foreign law enforcement agencies.

It is unlawful to manufacture or distribute any Schedule I or Schedule II Controlled Substance or its analogues, intending, knowing, or having reasonable cause to believe that such substance or chemical will be unlawfully imported into the United States. Individuals who knowingly violate such laws, or attempt or conspire to do so, risk criminal prosecution under 21 U.S.C. §§ 959, 960, and 963, among other statutes. These are felonies and offenders convicted of a crime under these statutes may face up to life in a U.S. federal prison, forfeiture, and a fine.

Six months ago, a message related to the domain RareChems.com was posted on Reddit, referencing an alleged dispute between the domain operators and a European producer of synthetic drugs, Lizard Labs.

The exchange includes NameCheap support responses that led to the domain’s suspension. RareChems.com remained at NameCheap since then, presumably after a Registry lock was implemented.
