An obsolete subdomain on Afternic is checkout.afternic.com. The platform stopped using the Afternic domain in its inventory search, sending buyers to GoDaddy.com instead.
In the good old days, Afternic users could search the Afternic inventory and then proceed to check out on the same domain. Now, Afternic purchases require a GoDaddy account log in before getting the domain.
One has to wonder why wasn’t the checkout.afternic.com domain been turned off.
The answer might be in existing affiliate links, such as those provided by the DomainTools WHOIS. If such a domain is queried and one clicks on that link (provided that the domain is on Afternic) then the checkout.afternic.om URL is activated. We don’t know, however, if the transaction will complete or if it will fail.
It would have been better if GoDaddy had rolled out Afternic 2.0 instead.
